Color Stories is a series of photographs of buildings throughout Spokane that feature broad, oddly spaced expanses of color. These apparently random blotches, usually painted in an attempt to mask graffiti, often contain subtle shifts in color that lend the practical act of repainting an air of the expressive. The buildings—discovered on exploratory drives through the city—are made abstract and unrecognizable through the use of a tightly cropped composition and a focus on negative space partly inspired by colorists Helen Frankenthaler and Dorothy Fratt.
