In this series of large-scale paintings, I repurpose sewing pattern paper—fragile, ephemeral guides—as both material and metaphor, using them as a structural foundation that I manipulate, layer, and reconstruct through adhesive, collage, and layering. These acts of building and unbuilding mirror the provisional nature of patterns themselves, which are guides rather than rules. Sewing patterns, historically tied to domestic labor and gendered expectations, symbolize learned behaviors imposed on women—following steps, cutting along dotted lines, and assembling oneself according to prescribed shapes. Yet, in my process, I deconstruct and reimagine these patterns, exploring the tension between social conditioning and individual agency, and the conflict between obedience and self-determination.
